Sonya
Smith-Valentine
is the owner of the Valentine Legal Group, LLC. Using her combined
15+ years of experience, first as a
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and now as an attorney, Sonya has
had a successful legal career winning cases against credit bureaus, credit card
companies, banks and collection agencies for unlawful activity.
Sonya is
also a
powerful keynote speaker and
consultant. Having been a victim of identity theft, she is passionate about
educating individuals about protecting their identities and
personal finance literacy. A Certified Identity Protection Advisor (CIPA),
Sonya is devoted helping her audiences understand
the importance of consumer protection laws as well as how those laws affect
their daily lives – both personally and professionally.
Sonya
is frequently
interviewed by newspapers,
magazines and
television networks on debt collection harassment, identity theft,
credit reporting and other important consumer issues.
She
has also written
several
articles regarding consumer law.
Sonya received her
law degree from
Brooklyn Law School and her Bachelors of Science degree
in Accountancy from Villanova
University. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland, the District of
Columbia, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
As a Certified Public Accountant,
Sonya previously worked for both Price Waterhouse Coopers and Deloitte &
Touché. She was formerly an Adjunct Professor in the area of accountancy at
Howard Community College.
Sonya is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
She is also a member of other various important legal organizations
including Civil Justice, Inc. and the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition.
